SUSPECT #3

Name: Petunia Potts

Age: 58

Association: Church volunteer

Q: What was your relationship with Paul Pickard?
A:
I've known the vicar since he first arrived here 7 years ago. Being the church warden, I was fortunate enough to see him daily. He was a wonderful man, and I trusted him as a dear friend.

Q: Where were you between 10 and 11 p.m. on Saturday?
A: I had helped with the competition that day and went to the pub with the vicar and everyone else afterward. I left at 9:45 p.m. because my eyes were having a bad reaction to allergies. I needed my eye medication from the church, and the vicar, being as kind as ever, accompanied me. After collecting the eye drops, I walked straight home. I could barely see anything by this point as they were so irritated. Thankfully, it's not a long walk, and I was home within a few minutes, just in time to watch my favorite program with my husband.

Q: Did you see anything out of the ordinary that night?
A: I did overhear a rival bell ringer, Gabby Gough, saying, "He's an insufferable fool who will get what's coming to him." This was right after the vicar's speech in which he lightheartedly mentioned her village team's performance at the competition. I was surprised by her reaction because it was all in good taste; even her teammates were laughing.

Q: Can you think of anyone who would have wanted the vicar dead?
A: Not at all, he was such a caring person who couldn't do enough for other people. I always joke that the only person who could have had an issue with the vicar was me; I lent him money from time to time for church repairs! But I was happy to do it, I'm not short of money, and it was a good cause.
